Founder | Dr. Delroy Lingo
Delroy Lingo, AKA Delingo, has been involved in the gospel music fraternity for over 30 years. He is Entertainer, Producer, Distributor, Singer, Emcee, Free Lance Radio Announcer, Gospel Music Ambassador. These are some of the hats The Gospel Vibes Master wears.
He was Road Manager for the Golden Touch Gospel Band for several years. Delingo then joined Life Production Company as Concert Manager, and Assistant Producer; a position that allowed him to work closely with local and international artists. However, his dream for the gospel music fraternity was not being fulfilled, because he was not able to reach the new upcoming artistes. In 1991 Delingo left Life Production to start his own company Impact Gospel Promotion and Booking Agency.
Impact Gospel Promotions was one of the largest and most dynamic in Jamaica’s gospel fraternity.
Delingo’s great talent was often displayed through artist management, and production and distribution of gospel music, locally and internationally. Impact Gospel Promotions was booking agency for top Jamaican gospel artists such as: Joan Flemmings & The Inspirers, Claudelle Clarke, Echoes of Joy, Schroeter Brothers, Sister Sculley, Lorene Williams, Sandra Brooks, Jerry Thompson, Derrick Douglas, Marvia Wilson-Providence, The Humming Birds, Young Battalions, Claudine Stewart, Billy Joe Neil among many others.
Delingo was one of the most sought after emcees in Jamaica. As an emcee he believes that the ultimate goal at any concert is soul winning. Hence, his audiences not only had a good time at events, but were always left with a challenge.
In 1993 Delingo hosted his first radio show Impact Gospel Time on Jamaica Broadcasting Corporation (JBC) that ran for three years. He then went to Love FM Jamaica’s only Gospel Radio Station and worked there for another three years. He later moved to Roots FM where he hosted two radio shows – Gospel Roots and Gospel Vibes.
In 1996, the Gospel Vibes Master displayed his love and interest in music when he staged a prestigious award ceremony; National Impact Gospel Award (NIGA). The National Impact Gospel Award (NIGA) honored artists living abroad for their valuable contribution to the gospel music fraternity. The highlight of this event was the crowning of the king and queen of Jamaican gospel music, Otis Wright and Claudelle Clarke respectively.
The Governor General of Jamaica His Excellency Sir Howard Cooke was the Patron of the ceremony and the King and Queen were presented with the Governor General’s trophies. The Gospel Vibes Master has also hosted many concerts featuring international artists such as: Shirley Caesar, Rev. F.C Barnes, Phil and Brendan Nicholas and Valerie Boyd.
Another event staged by Delingo was Caribbean Gospel Expression – an all-night concert held yearly at the Spanish Town Prison Oval. This event was the first of its kind in Jamaica and included local and Caribbean artists. Delingo has also staged numerous free gospel concerts in St. William Grant Park, and Nelson Mandela Park and artists travel from all over the Island to perform at these concerts. In 1997, the first ever “Gospel Music Crusade” was held at the Nelson Mandela Park in Kingston and over one hundred persons made commitments to follow Christ. Additionally, in 1997,
Delingo was nominated for the JAMI LifeTime Achievement Award along with Chris Stanley, Toots Hibbert, and Dennis Brown the recipient of the award. Impact Gospel Promotion was also nominated for the JAMI Trailblazer Award along with Grace Thrillers, Glory Music, Shaggy, and Dean Fraser the recipient.
Delingo demonstrated that he not only expressed verbally his love and concern for those in need but offered assistance through outreach programmes. The Impact Needy Fund came into effect with the help of Directors, Markland Edwards, Dean Reid and Karen Winter. The aim of the Needy Fund was to provide assistance for people who were not able to afford certain necessities. Two of the persons who benefited from this fund were Aleica McKellop, and Deanna Edwards. Alicia was brutally attacked by a man of unsound mind and Impact paid the full cost of her surgery. Deanna needed urgent eye surgery and was flown to Florida through the kind help of Air Jamaica and Florida Medical Association. Director, Karen Wynter accompanied her to Florida and remained with her for three months through her recovery period.
Delingo was also involved with the Caring Heart Program, which donated food, clothing, toys, and school supplies to needy children. Walker Home of Safety was one organization that received major assistance through this program.
In 1999, The Gospel Vibes Master migrated to Atlanta, Georgia to host the first ever Caribbean Gospel Music programme “Gospel Vibes” on WATB 1420 Caribbean JAMS. Gospel Vibes opened the door for Caribbean artists such as: Papa San, Grace Thrillers, Junior Tucker and Blood Brothers to perform in Atlanta.
